After Nanette left the Royal College of Art 1991 she established her illustration and design practice in Amsterdam, in 2008 she moved (back) to the United Kingdom. At present she is conducting a PhD research in practice at the Royal College of Art (AHRC funded) and the University of Sussex exploring the emerging field of online editorial illustration.The PhD research is concerned with the understanding of the particular position and qualities of editorial illustration. It investigates the role and signifying relationships of the illustration within the current printed and online publication platforms. The research practice explores in particular the potential for the creation of live illustration, where the image responds automatically to big data input through the expressive language of illustration.
