A one day Illustration Research colloquium looking at collage
Venue: Southampton Solent University
Using the defaced library books of Kenneth Halliwell and Joe Orton as a starting point, this colloquium will allow attendees to explore the accessible and powerful medium of collage, through theory and practice. The morning session consists of a series of talks designed to explore and consider the history of the discipline and its effect on culture, politics and society. Delegates will then be invited to apply this knowledge in the afternoon session by choosing to engage with one of two practical workshops specially designed by contemporary practitioners to complement the event. Delegates arriving the evening before are invited to attend a special screening of the film ‘Prick Up Your Ears’, directed by Stephen Frears.
